Who is Stomp it Out for?

Stomp It Out is designed for those caring for or working with children between the ages of 5-12, including:

Educators

School Psychologists, social workers and therapists

Speech Pathologists & Occupational Therapists

Parents & Caregivers (see support page)

Here is how it works

After teaching children the meaning of each large feeling mat, set any number of the mats in a circle around the room. The children should stand in the center of the circle.

You read targeted situation cards (Social Issues, Responsibility & Limits, Changes & Transitions including COVID19, Positive Situations, & Academic Challenges) and your kids get to MOVE in fun ways (stomp, hop, twirl, army crawl, crab walk) to the appropriate mat that depicts how they would feel in the situation described. Fun and engaging movements remove the vulnerability behind responding to the scenarios provided.

The kids will learn to control their body (while having FUN), build emotional language and vocabulary, identify and connect their emotions to their experiences, and to take the perspective of others. This is social emotional learning at work.

When ready, kids return to the center of the circle and learn to collaboratively problem solve through each situation.

Meet the creator of Stomp It Out

Tara Eddy, M.S., P.P.S, NCSP is a Licensed Educational Psychologist certified by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. She ran a private practice in West Los Angeles and Sherman Oaks for five years before re-locating to Berlin in 2022 to support students and families in Europe.

Tara currently trains and supports counselors, educators, and parents around the world and has worked with educators in 36 countries since 2022.

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from New York University and graduated with honors from California State University Northridge (CSUN) with a Master’s Degree and Pupil Personnel Credential in Counseling and School Psychology. Tara has been providing, therapy, consultation, trainings, and evaluation for 11 years.

Noting a gap in social emotional learning products for kids, Tara founded Feelings in Motion, a company focused on making social-emotional learning more approachable for all learners. Stomp It Out is the flagship product of Feelings in Motion. Stomp It Out helps children to build emotional vocabulary, learn emotional awareness and expression, social skills, problem solving and perspective taking skills. The game materials engage children in physical movement that removes the vulnerability behind building these skills. Stomp It Out effectively addresses diverse learning styles.

Tested in five schools throughout Los Angeles, the game was designed by Tara Eddy and illustrated by Jerry Montoya, an artist and elementary school staff member who worked with the students Tara originally designed the game to support.
